PRESENTATION:
Plastics: Here and there, and everywhere.

Plastic products erupted onto the consumer market in the 1970’s. The convenience of plastics has permeated every aspect of our daily life. Count the number of times you come into contact with plastic in one hour. I’ll bet you lose track. Now consider that recent estimates suggest that only 9% of plastics are recycled. So, what happens to all that plastic stuff? Much of it ends up in landfills but a lot ends up in our oceans and lakes. Moreover, plastic can break down into tiny bits of plastic, or microplastics, in the oceans. What are the consequences of this plastic, big and small, in our oceans and lakes? We will explore plastics here, in Lake Winnebago, and there, and everywhere.

See you at the meeting!
